More Snow on the Way

12/7/08 - Southern Wisconsin residents, including those in Dodge County, will need to keep their shovels handy over the next few days. Starting tomorrow at 6pm the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for our area until 6am Wednesday morning. They predict 6 to 12 inches of snow is possible before everything is said and done.

4 Dead in Accidents Statewide

12/7/08 - Authorities say snow and ice played a factor in four motor vehicle deaths over the weekend. Gregory Steinke of Madison lost control in Verona early Saturday, hitting a pickup truck. He was dead at the scene. A 20-year-old driver from Kiel died Saturday afternoon in a Manitowoc County accident. Racine County authorities think alcohol was a factor in a Saturday crash that left a woman dead in Burlington. And, a Spring Valley woman, 46-year-old Jeri Brunkhorst, was killed when the car she was riding in slammed into a power pole Friday night.

Be Aware of Cold Weather Effects

12/7/08 - With the extremely cold weather we have this weekend the Dodge County Office of Emergency Management is asking residents to take precautions when going outside. A wind chill of minus 10-degrees can cause frostbite in just 20 minutes or less so make sure to keep your skin covered at all times. Officials also say overexertion can be dangerous. Cold weather puts and added strain on the heart so unaccustomed exercise such as shoveling snow or pushing a car can bring on a heart attack or make an existing medical condition worse. Officials also say pets are at risk in these type of temperatures and should not be left outside for extended amounts of time.

Parents Leave Baby in Car while Getting Drunk

12/7/08 - Don’t bring your baby to the bar, especially if you plan on getting hammered. The Dodge County Sheriffs Department responded to an anonymous report of an infant in a car seat inside a Town of Hustisford bar yesterday morning. Authorities say both parents were intoxicated. The 33-year-old father had a blood-alcohol level nearly three-times the legal limit, while the 32-year-old mother was nearly twice the driving limit. The couple was cited for disorderly conduct. The infant was turned over the care of the maternal grandmother and the report has been forwarded to social services.

FDL Man Gets 10-years for Attack

12/7/08 - A 37-year-old criminal defendant from Fond du Lac will spend 10 years in prison for his attack on 59-year-old Royden Haskins Senior. Haskins reportedly had accused Jerrad Blake and another man of sexually harassing a woman. The two men attacked Haskins, kicking him in the head 20 or 30 times. Then, they suspended him, upside down, from a tree and burned him. Blake pleaded no contest to the charges.

Another Deer Hunting Season Begins

12/7/08 - More deer hunting starts Thursday with the four-day antler-less deer season for bow and gun hunters. You can only shoot does and young bucks without antlers. The short season follows the traditional nine-day gun season which saw hunters take 277-thousand deer. That figure was down about 20-percent from last year. The December hunt was started two years ago in an effort to thin the over-populated state herd. Some deer hunters maintain the state's estimates are too high and the deer aren't as numerous as estimates seem to show.
